Ajuga
Fast spreading ground cover
Commonly known as Bugleweed, it is a versatile groundcover plant. It is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial with glossy, dark broze green leaves and striking blue flower spikes that bloom in late spring and early summer.
This plant is ideal for covering banks, slopes, and borders, as well as for rock gardens and under shrubs or trees. It performs well in both sun and shade but may scorch in very hot conditions. Ajuga reptans reproduces vegetatively through stolons, as seed production is not observed in New Zealand. It is also known for attracting beneficial insects like bees.
